SD Scotland Awarded Increased Funding To Tackle Anti-Sectarianism

SD Scotland are delighted to announce continued and increased funding for our Colours of our Scarves anti-sectarianism work.

Since 2013, Colours of our Scarves has covered a large area of Scottish football and worked with a number of stakeholders within the game to make it better for everyone.

Currently in its fourth year, Colours of our Scarves works with key stakeholders within Scottish sport to provide athletes, coaches, organisers and volunteers with a support mechanism, an educational tool and a opportunity for self-reflection and development with a focus on community impact and improving the learning and developmental environment for everyone involved.

The project consists of a variety of workshops, focus groups and mentoring schemes for sports participants, Sports coaches and organisers alike, with workshop and delivery projects tailored to the specific needs of the individual, club or association.

The funding for 18/19 allows us to develop our programme and increase provision of educational workshops for local sports clubs across the country.

Mark Reid, Project Manager for SD Scotland said: “Our engagement with football supporters across the country and some recent high-profile incidents enforce the fact that sectarianism remains a problem within our society.

“We’re therefore pleased this funding will enable us to continue to deliver our vital work with centres of higher and further education across the country, at the Scottish FA’s Schools of Football and also allow for the expansion of our delivery to include provision to local sports club across Scotland.”

The announcement of continued funding coincides with SD Scotland’s announcement to form the ‘Fair Play Foundation’, a charitable arm of our work which the Colours of our Scarves programme will sit within. You can find out more about the Fair Play Foundation here.
