The Equality through sport project works with local sports groups to deliver community based events tackling perceived intolerance and perceived levels of hate behaviour on a community level through delivering a sport based event tackling prejudice and hate behaviours.
In the last 18 months 7 events have been devised, organised and facilitated by groups of college students looking to impact their own local communities in different ways.
The programme has seen activities ranging from Anti sectarian football tournaments, dance sessions, disability sports events, gender equality days, awareness campaigns, social media campaigns and many, many more activities.
The induvial that participate in the planning and delivery receive support, guidance, knowledge and assitantce to empower them to “make their community better”.
Sport can be used as a vehicle to address social prejudices and supporters direct Scotland believe that by utilising the power of sport local individuals and local communities can help improve and make their own communities a more tolerant an accepting place to live.
