Supporters Direct Scotland through the Colours of our Scarves Project delivers to over 1000 coaches annually providing support and guidance both on the mechanics and methodology around creating sporting environments that are
· conducive to learning
· provide a positive learning experience
· creating safe spaces that are non-judgmental and inclusive to all.
The Colours of our Scarves project works across the spectrum of sport and education and in the past provided upskilling and a support resource to coaches across a range of sports from Football, Basketball, Rugby, Martial Arts and many more.
The Coach Education programmes works with Coaches, Sport Facilitators, Development Officers, and other within the sport sector to provide a better understanding of the following.
· The actions and potential consequences of hate behaviours.
· The roles and responsibilities of sports facilitators and sporting role models.
· The realties beyond the perceptions around intolerance within sport.
In any coach-player relationship it is the coach who we believe is the critical figure in creating the parameter’s of what is accepted behaviours and without having a solid understanding of how they as individuals and role models can impact and influence their own athletes both in a positive and negative way, they will fail to maximise the potential growth and development of their athletes, in addition to failing to provide an appropriate duty of care by ensuring the environment is as it should be.
The project has also delivered bespoke workshops for sports development officers, active school co-coordinators and sports related development groups around the structural and procedural mechanisms related to equality within sport.
